The musical culture of the Americas owes its vibrancy to a continuous flow of influences from abroad that are transmuted by the American experience into new sound-scapes that merge “then” with “now”, and “there” with “here”. The orchestra will present Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony From the New World complemented by the world premiere of BU composer Christian Martin’s Sonoran Fantasy: Variations on a Native American Theme and the Responsorio (2000) by Ecuadorian composer Diego Luzuriaga at 3 p.m. in Osterhout Concert Theater.

With over 40 years in existence, the National Symphony Orchestra of México was formed by Maestro Enrique Batiz and the State Government of Mexico to promote music as a means of union and identification among Mexicans. Enrique Batiz is one of the most famous orchestra conductors in Latin America, a gifted artist who has won international popularity and fame with interpretations that elicit the deepest and most profound emotion.

Spellbinding twirls and dips are sure to captivate the audience in a voyeuristic journey through dance and music of the life of Eva Peron, the most important feminine character in Argentinian history. The program traces her life from her ascent to fame in the 1930’s to her death in 1952.  Direct from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tango Buenos Aires is considered the most authentic and uncompromising representative of tango today.
